People have been leaving Twitter and joining bluesky in flocks this week. Cool to see them finally abandon the nazi bar but I wish more joined mastodon.
Anecdotally speaking, I’d say over 90% of the profiles I encounter on here are tech based/ran by someone with tech background in some way. Not the douchey tech bros, more so the cool anarchist hacker type or hates authority and respects privacy type. Even though it’s a language i definitely don’t understand in my brain if the tech people are here that is a good sign about how this platform operates that backs up everything i have read and learned about fedi.

@alissaazar Masto has gotten a (fairly deserved) bad reputation among certain populations because of its inability to effectively moderate racist trolls.
Some folks really don't want to hear this but the number of follows I've had quit over this is way too high.

@MichaelTBacon @alissaazar that’s your instance moderation team, my server has 0 trolls. My previous server had zero trolls. Poorly moderated instances allow crap- that’s the instance not mastodon- move to another instance.

@ChuffMeister @MichaelTBacon @alissaazar you definitely need to tune in - silently please - to the racist mastodon meta. It's not about "bad instances," it's about bad behavior that most major instances don't find concerning enough to be actionable but which effectively drives away minority population users who are already burnt out & super don't from talking with this on every other social media.
Every single black mastodon user I follow experiences this. It's not just about instances.
