@ta1da As Imran has said it's not really possible (to the best of my knowledge) unless you self host or are on really good terms with the admin (I have no idea what the process is) . Best you can do is download you old posts and create an archive. I believe only fediverse software like Hubzilla has a protocol that allows a more portable account but then only to other Hubzilla setups.

@emsquared @ta1da
( To the dear reader:
If you, like me, never knew about this, there's a nice fedi.tips post explaining what will and won't get transferred: https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server/ )
I wonder what's the purpose of this idea... Maybe avoid having people post-date stuff? Maybe disallow abuse as old content from elsewhere could not comply with server rules? -

@rebeccafinn @ta1da Good suggestion and I'm sure some of your wondering are also spot on. Yeah. I kind of thought it might be just not to overload smaller instances plus the pain of the previous instance being part of the post address and having to completely re-index with the new instance address and possible duplication of posts. I think an archived area for old posts would answer this but primarily I know nothing.
