@u0421793 Ha. Almost the same for me. One of the 1st CD's I owned and before I had a player. Previously I had it on chrome cassette 9still have that) but it is and was perfect for the CD format & digital. I had followed The Lost Jockey before this (that Poppy was part of) and some of the tracks had already been tried as part of that ensemble but here they were much improved.
Saw him as part of the ZTT Ambassadors showcase & fair to say it was not everyones cuppa that night. -
@emsquared my pathway into those CDs (which also included Propaganda / A Secret Wish) was the cassette ZTT Sampled, which was a sort of best of ZTT at that time, and I’d play it endlessly on my commute between West One and Sussex on the tiniest (JVC?) Walkman strapped to my arm

@u0421793 Yes a great sampler album that. The companion to that Ambassadors theatre showcase - a lot of the Morely soundbites were taken from that evening (later repackaged as The Value of Entertainment and even some pre-gig Propaganda & "Art of noise substitute dancers" footage saw that light of day that had previously only been available on Laserdisc in Japan). Ah a Walkman of the arm. Technology eh.

@emsquared @u0421793 someone needs to do a doc about ZTT
-
@bobthomson70 @u0421793 They should. OK the downside is Paul Morley has to be involved (only kidding). Sadly we no longer have Jill Sinclair to put her side though there might be enough archive input from her as I feel she was crucial in steering the ship whilst Horn & Morley indulged themselves.
-
@emsquared @u0421793 I can well imagine that yes. Not sure how much Morley’s book goes into it. Claudia and Susanne had some good wee insights on

J J and Langan too

@bobthomson70 @u0421793 must catch up on those. Still haven't read Trevor Horn's book.
-
@emsquared @u0421793 me neither, read the sample but not the rest of it. Same with Morely’s and that was hard going for the latter!
-
@bobthomson70 @u0421793 I read Morley's book on Bowie. Was going to get back on Spotify or do the Audible trial to listen to the audio book version but just never have.

@bobthomson70 Oooh missed that. A good read. See here's taking Welcome to the pleasured one on tour for its 40th anniversary (say Whaaa). Without the original band still. The Euro vision thing was a curious one off.
-
@emsquared at least they did it once eh. Always have the impression most of them are ok with it but Mr J remains mercurial. Singers innit.
-
@bobthomson70 I think he experienced some bullying by one member whilst the the band back in the day. Remember the attempt to reunite them on the Sky programme decades back & Holly declined (mind you as did getting Squeeze back together during a hiatus) so was stunned when he agreed to Eurovision. He still has a great voice live.
