I've been saying for years that I'm a rubbish #sewist but I recently joined a Morris side either my other half and the look involves wearing fancy tailored jackets made of curtain or upholstry fabric so needs must! Our two jackets are truly the first garments I've ever made (pictured is mine) . I just took it steady, followed instructions, and took apart a cheap charity shop tailored jacket to see how it is done by the professionals. The main challenge was pattern matching the pieces.

That's a great look for the Morris side. My wife's cousin dances for Abingdon Traditional Morris and they're nowhere near as impressive.
