Some non-Nix-using friends of mine are complaining about people PRing *.nix to their repo and being unable to keep it maintained because ... well, non-Nix-using. Given how:
- This literally does not help you get those things into Nixpkgs because of IFD
- Nix is flexible enough to do it out-of-tree

Upstreaming an unmaintained flake.nix / shell.nix in-tree does *not* help you use it with Nix.

If you're a maintainer in this situation tell them you can't accept to maintain it. I said so.
