what do you think the most regretted purchase is, going by listings on resale marketplaces?

@molly0xfff Now I know what a cricut machine is. Never too old to learn!
-
@molly0xfff Apparently they are reasonably common among model train people for cutting styrene sheets for making custom buildings, but I've never tried myself.
-
@simonbp that sounds like a lot of fun!

@BartWronski @molly0xfff you need to be eating a LOT of meat to make use of a sous vide machine regularly :')

@molly0xfff
They're pretty neat for a few months, finicky when you have to change the cutting doohickey, and the only approved software requires a monthly fee. It's like a bizzaro 3D printer. -
@molly0xfff Not a bad bet. Though I will note that a considerable number of elementary school teachers have and actively use cricut machines, and they don't tend to use that "Hobby Lobby home decor" font.

@molly0xfff Going with treadmill/exercise machine.

@dotstdy @molly0xfff and, IMO, for meats, it's too much hassle for an incremental improvement and something you can get with a proper technique without it. (It is a game changer for eggs and fish, though)
Almost everyone I know who got one had an excitement phase, "sous vide everything", then it sat in a drawer until they sold it. (And I'm talking about foodies who cook regularly)

@BartWronski @molly0xfff Yeah, mine also is pretty idle. One of those things where I can totally see how it's great if you're a restaurant, but that doesn't translate to making it easier to cook up two steaks for dinner. It's also a bit funny because I think fundamentally they're just extremely cheap things, small heater + micro, but I expect for many of the target audience they're spending a large amount.

@dotstdy @BartWronski i have one that i use pretty infrequently, but it's so handy when i do use it. i've used it to do everything from pasteurize eggs to keep chocolate in temper
