@pfefferle I believe the "reply" link on comments is missing after a recent update to the ActivityPub plugin.
-
@pfefferle I can confirm that is the case... If I open my blog in an incognito window, I see the “Reply on the Fediverse" link... but I do not see WordPress' default "reply” link. Unsure why.
-
@cdevroe the "reply" link is only shown on "local" comments. there is no possibility to answer to federated comments using the local comment form (except you are a user of the blog).
the idea behind that is, that we do not want to defragmant conversations. if a local thread on a comment from the fediverse is possible, the original author of the comment will never see the replies and can't be part of that.
-
@pfefferle That makes total sense. Thank you!
So, is there a way to restore the “reply on the fediverse" link for my user despite having ActivityPub turned off for my author? (I know, I'm a huge pain!)
-
@cdevroe @pfefferle In the past I've used https://brid.gy to turn ActivityPub replies into WordPress comments
-
@cdevroe ah, I think I see your issue. So you do not see the reply/reply on the fedivers, because of the blog-user/disabled local user thing?!?
-
@pfefferle That is my guess. I'm like your worst nightmare!

@cdevroe I wouldn't go that far, but definitely challenging!!

@cdevroe but i'm not innocent of the whole situation... after all, I built the feature 🫣
-
@pfefferle I like to keep you on your toes!
-
@pfefferle For now, I could enable ActivityPub for my author only when I'm creating comments.
-
@cdevroe 🫶

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] how does that work, could it be done for comments on other CMS platforms too?
-
@cdevroe that sounds like a really straight forward plan

@vetehinen @cdevroe @george it works very similar to mastodon... it sends new posts to your followers and collects and sends comments to your posts.
this can be done for every platform... but there has to be someone to build it
