What is a decision?
Does a decision always need reasons or could reasons actually help turn a decision into just another mindless response? An increasing number of studies in #neuroscience appears to be upending the concept of decision-making - or are they just just helping us to refine our concepts?

@brembs interesting intersection of concerns and discussion points in these two separate strands

I’m interested in the intuition that #AI systems *don’t* “make decisions”. It actually hadn’t occurred to me that one might look at deep reinforcement learning systems that learn to play Atari games from pixel level information to human or above human level as anything other than ‘making decisions’ ? and good ones at that? or Alpha Go? how else would one describe the game play? https://daiwk.github.io/assets/dqn.pdf
