Between the FSFs desire to not modernise or apparently work out a decent succession plan and the OSI focus on not creating a fully open definition for Open AI, I'm not sure what organisation we have that represents us.

But perhaps that's the problem. We can't rely on centralised US centric organisations.
We need distributed organisations, grass roots communities.

@onepict I'm increasingly just seeing FOSS it its current US-dominated form as "less corporate software" (in the same way copaganda describes baton rounds, tasers etc as "less lethal weaponry")

@onepict That's why many years ago there was the plan to create a network of FSF* around the world.
The FSF* network - FSFE
We work with other international groups to promote Free Software on every continent. The following organisations are sister organisations of the FSFE, and ...
FSFE - Free Software Foundation Europe (fsfe.org)
The current state of the network is definitely not as good as it should be, but I think the idea is still good and it goes into the right direction. Especially as FSF* are traditionally quite user/people focused and less corporate focused. Therefore I think it fits your idea of grass root communities quite well.

@onepict I don't feel either ever represented us, especially the OSI.

@bjoern Yes, I think the FSFE focus and campaigning in public money public code as well as it's participation in #NGIZero is an extremely good template for distributed organisations to do.
The REUSE tool is a great example as well. As well as the software, we do need folks who can lobby and advise legislators. Or even become politicians themselves.
Which is why we need more intersectional communities in #FLOSS.
