This jumped out at me:
"The sole option we have to save ourselves and generations of diverse, decent, vital human beings is for all of us: Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, progressive Christians and humanists and Muslims and Atheists and Jews and Agnostics to vote in November; in vast numbers, in unwavering unity, and unreservedly for Kamala Harris and Democrats across the ticket."

@sshann Reading anything at all about how white evangelicals have been behaving in this critically important point of history puts a stone in my stomach.

@wdlindsy With all respect for your concerns what I’m worried about the most is the polarity of US right now. As an European I might not have full informations about how your government works but you still have House of Representatives and Senate to govern you. President might be the most visible one but not superpowered God. One might be lesser evil than other one from personal point of view. That’s all. Everything will be alright.

@GreenRoc When fascists gain power, it's ALWAYS the most vulnerable who are hurt first and hardest. That's built into the fascist system, since it needs to make examples of someone — someone easy to hurt — to show everyone else what will happen to them if they get out of hand.

@wdlindsy So reminder is for myself to see if stuff is as bad as we felt like it will be. What I’m interested in the most is the separation of state and church. If USA loses that battle (completely, it already started) that would start a path with no turning back and end of democracy that US represents for me.

@Unreeden I think you're correct when you say that eradicating the line separating the end of church and state would spell the end of democracy. I live in a very Republican area of the country dominated by white evangelicals, and it's very clear to me that the goal of many of my fellow citizens is to shatter democracy and install theocracy.

@Unreeden We have a nation in which a minority of voters is allowed to dominate the majority by gaming the system, by packing the courts, using the non-representative Senate and the Electoral College to provide that minority with minoritarian control, suppressing minority votes, gerrymandering districts.

@wdlindsy A terrifying truth. Disabled were first to be killed back around World War II.
Facists must not have that much power.
Everyone is important, including disabled and trans people, and everyone else.

@GreenRoc Yes, as Julia Boyd writes in her book A Village in the Third Reich: How Ordinary Lives Were Transformed by the Rise of Fascism,
“It was in the spring of 1939 that Hitler finally set in motion a ‘racial hygiene’ policy that he had wanted to pursue for many years, namely the systematic killing of those who were mentally or physically disabled."

"He made his intentions clear in an address to the Nuremberg Rally ten years earlier when he had argued that if of the million or so children born each year in Germany 70,000 to 80,000 of the weakest were removed, the nation would be made correspondingly stronger …
Once the means to kill children had been established, it was only a matter of months before the programme was extended to include adults living in asylums or other such institutions."
