"January 30th 1933 dawned cold and clear in Berlin as Adolph Hitler took his oath of office and promised Germans he would uphold the constitution.

@wdlindsy "But if you asked a hundred or a thousand young men what Trump wants to do that would benefit them, or how the country he wants to create would plausibly be better for them than the one they live in now, I suspect almost none of them would be able to come up with an answer."
Oh, they have an answer.
"Trump normalizes the hate I feel for others who are not like me. That benefits me by making me feel better about my hate."
They're just not going to tell you that answer.

🥥 MAGAs like to say that half the US population supports Trump.
But when you take into account that 40% of USians don't vote, that leaves 60% roughly split between Democratic and Republican voters.
So approx 30% support Trump. And that's about the same percentage of voters that put Adolf Hitler into power in 1933 Germany to disastrous effect for the rest of the world. 🥥

"'I need the kind of generals that Hitler had,' Trump said in a private conversation in the White House, according to two people who heard him say this. 'People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.'”

/15Trump: ‘I Need the Kind of Generals That Hitler Had’
The Republican nominee’s preoccupation with dictators, and his disdain for the American military, is deepening.

"A desire to force U.S. military leaders to be obedient to him and not the Constitution is one of the constant themes of Trump’s military-related discourse."

@wdlindsy The fact any Congress Critter who supported Jan 6 should be made accountable seems like a fantasy, just like Trump being held accountable?

Who was the arsewipe who ran the Gitmo torture program?
He'll know generals who'd stand by Trump.

@Piousunyn Seems that way, but I think the only response that avoids letting those folks dehumanize us by making us despair is to keep hoping.

@Dave_Goldsmith Indeed. Not all of Hitler's generals were what the unschooled and unintelligent Trump imagines.

@jstatepost Someone I just read today — can't recall who right now — noted that Trump's polling advantage is that he has taken over a party intent on remaining loyal to its leader at all costs. That automatically gives him some 45% of votes, though, as you say, not everyone votes. As you rightly note, it takes only a rabid minority to seize control, as Hitler's takeover of Germany tells us. That's a lesson I don't think we can afford to forget.
