blog! “The tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth”
-
I've just requested the MRI records of my full entire head and brains.
I'm eventually going to 3D print replacement parts for every bit of me!

Want to know what happens if you keep your baby teeth until your mid-40s?
They end up wearing away to little nubs and have to be extracted under anaesthesia.
One had a fairly long root, but was chipped in the mouth.
The other was hardier, but the root was all but gone.Hope to get a good price from the Tooth Fairy!

Hurrah for the NHS!
They sent me the full MRI of my head (on a CD in a weird file format, but let's not be too grumpy).
I'M GONNA 3D PRINT MY BRAINS!
-
@Edent How do you define "weird", here? From my memory of, briefly, working in a neuroscience department, there's a fairly standard format that's used in MRI scans. (And IIRC, fMRI delivers a sequence of them, one for each point in the time series).
-
@darkling The files themselves were standard DICOM.
They came compressed in CFS - an obscure and non-standard ISO replacement. -

@Edent ooh I had an MRI yesterday of my torso, I could probably get that! Nice.

@floppy Between us we can build a superhuman!
With my brains and your body it will be a Super-Man!!! -

@Edent Hooray for people being able to literally pick your brain!
-
@Edent ooh, was the format DICOM by any chance? I had to get to grips with that back in 2000 to extract frames from an ultrasound machine
-
@arakin
Eventually they were DICOM - which are easy to view of Linux.
But they were wrapped in a weird container. CFS. -
@Edent @erikcats Few years ago I painstakingly removed the skull on every layer by hand to compile a usable 3D object from a coworkers brain. Is there a better software stack available today?
Was quite a bit of work but was kind of fun to hand him his brain (with an impressive hole where a tumor once lived).
-
@Edent Ooh you’ve got lovely sinuses.
-
@Edent I'd do that myself but my Ender isn't very good at small models.
-
@rodti
Thanks - my wife says they're my best feature -
@mw1cgg
Harsh -
@lenni no idea about the software. Going to have a play.

@Edent ooh! let me know how you manage to do this, because I also have an MRI of my brains on a CD that has remained tragically unprinted for years.
