"For weeks, major American media organizations — including The Washington Post, Politico, and the New York Times — have possessed internal Trump campaign documents.

"Where does that perception come from? It comes, in part, from news companies like the New York Times. …
Newspapers like the Times portray Trump and his allies as being obsessed with centrist-friendly things like cutting wasteful spending and increasing government efficiency, instead of exploring their actual extremist views."

"If voters see Trump as some kind of centrist, that is in no small part because news companies like The New York Times persist in cleaning up his incoherent ramblings, downplaying the threat he poses, and helping him pose as an abortion moderate who just wants to reduce wasteful spending and make government more efficient."

@wdlindsy I also recently saw the media not headlining Trump's lie that schools perform operations on children. They #sanewashed the headline.

"Seemingly out of the blue Monday morning, supporters of former president Donald Trump began posting myriad AI-generated images depicting the Republican presidential nominee as a savior. Not of the American Dream or of Christianity, mind you, the normal targets of such praise. Instead, Trump was shown protecting ducks and kitty cats."

"If you are not a denizen of the right’s conversational bubble, this will probably strike you as incomprehensible. If you are such a denizen, though, you know what’s happening: Trump and his allies — and his running mate! — are elevating false or unsubstantiated claims about immigrants injuring and eating pets and other animals."

Why did this patently false, easily disproven story get legs immediately? Bump's answer: the right-wing media bubble. Musk's Twitter (excuse me, X) amplified it — of course — and then J.D. Vance piled on, and now it's an instant article of faith in MAGA circles.
With the corporate media never seeming to show much interest in addressing directly how disinformation spreads like wildfire on social media….

@wdlindsy Good god. Some of us are old enough to remember when Bill Clinton took the Democrats to the “middle,” and we’ve been losing ground most of the years since.
Who exactly would Trump be to the “left” of? There’s not much daylight between him and Pinochet.

@DanadasGrau I would hope that's what a gift link mean. For me, it opened without any request that I create an account. I'm sorry it apparently doesn't work the same way for other readers when I cut and paste the gift link here.

@john Thanks for explaining. A useful link which I'll try out myself, since I don't subscribe to the Atlantic and can read its articles only when someone provides a gift link. Thank you.

@DanadasGrau Yes. When I clicked the link, it opened for me. I then copied it and shared it here, assuming (or perhaps hoping) that it would open as a gift link for anyone clicking on it.
