Completely agree. W/ Trump, it's always about whether he can bring people to the heel of unfettered power.
The program he has in mind, once enough people have capitulated, is vile. "Mass deportations now," he has already told us, is going to be a "bloody story."
Trump Promises a ‘Bloody Story’
His latest comment about mass deportation are a revelation about how he feels—and a troubling reminder of the sources of his appeal.

@wdlindsy It makes me wonder who among their radicalized base (or leadership) are already eating pets, such that they would need to project that guilt onto a different group of people?

"This falsehood, directed at a community that has done nothing wrong besides being from a different place than the surrounding residents, shows how much the Trump campaign’s strategy hinges on polluting the information environment with lies about vulnerable groups that Republicans want to blame for the country’s problems."

/18Gullible Mr. Trump
The former president will believe anything—even wild rumors about immigrants killing and eating pets—as long as it’s cruel, politically expedient, and on TV.

Masha Gessen has written extensively on the role egregious lying plays in an authoritarian movement.
1. Firehose of Falsehood propaganda techniques
2. Building societal distrust
3. Growing a sense of impunity in elites
4. Creating information bubbles for a cult of personalityWhy Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin lie... and why they are so good at it
In a recent interview in Mother Jones, the political activist and Russian dissident Masha Gessen offers an important insight as to why Donald Trump seems so comfortable lying, even when he can easily be disproven. Trump does not lie because he believes what he is saying to be true â?" nor to change the minds of others â?" Gessen argues; he lies to assert power. â?oEvery time [Trump]

@wdlindsy kind of ironic when Trump endorser JFK Jr eats anything he finds out on the road, or beach, or carries it around in his car and finally dumps them in public parks.

Rising rents aren't caused by immigrants, they're just a convenient scapegoat for GOP megadonors.

@wdlindsy It was pretty foul all that. But Kamal could just have said immigrants are a net gain and we'll have a working, humane immigrant policy. But there was that big blank on that one.

I had a horrible dream about this last night — not about the rumor, but about all the memes and how it was the Dark Circus come to life. It's lurid and so so attractive to laugh at, just like the original seduction of laughing at "circus freaks" in cages.
These memes will absolutely promote stochastic violence against immigrants.
I posted this on FB trying to get people to stop promoting it but FB buried the post.

@wdlindsy It's not just that is a lie, not only that it demonizes one group.
The very fact that a candidate for high office chose to elevate an unproven and contentious story is what is weird.
Even if it were true, at best it is an issue for local law enforcement and does not deserve this large spotlight.
They chose this, not things like lead pipes or poverty or jobs.
At that level they should use their platform for issues that affect many people, like abortion or the economy.
