Getting a new iPhone?

Getting a new iPhone? You can transfer your Signal account including message history. Set up your new iPhone with Apple's Quick Start but be sure to *skip* wiping your old phone until *after* you've transferred your Signal account from within the Signal app.

Getting a degoogled Android (Murena eOS) or Linux phone? As of Monday, Signal's API will refuse to send or receive your messages because your messages and their byte-for-byte identical Signal App on your phone are no longer trusted.

Do you have a reference for this issue? I am using Murena (Fairphone 4) and my Signal app works as of today. No issues noticed in sending or receiving. Version 7.11.4 -
@other_ghosts @hobs @signalapp Signal works for me too in my /e/ OS Fairphone, but it was a fresh install. I could authenticate from my laptop, but of course the older messages are not there.
No idea what switching fromm Google to /e/ OS on the same phone will do.

On Monday/Tues I started getting: "Permanent failure. Unable to connect to Google Play Services. You will not be able to send or receive messages."
Your working setup (and remembering the error messages) made me remember that a month ago I was trying to create a plain text backup using a FOSS version of signal. Checking now with the official app, Gmail login on app lounge, but my full passphrase-encrypted backup restore has taken a while and may be hung.

I hope it works! I don't have any technical advice. Glad that mine has worked, because this is not something I have skills or patience for. Best of luck.

Unfortunately, it seems like I wasn't imagining things. I wasn't able to restore from my backup: "invalid extension" for my full backup from my old phone which was a fully Googled android. And when I skip the restore and log in with phone number and PIN, I get this warning about missing Google Play Services, so I'm not hopeful I won't have the same problem again sometime in the future. -
@hobs @other_ghosts @signalapp Try checking if MicroG is working correctly https://doc.e.foundation/support-topics/guide-micro-g
MicroG is /e/ OS's replacement for the Google services.
