Despite this little snafu with #Lenovo, I'm just going to say on the record that I absolutely love that I get to use #Fedora #Linux for my dayjob and I would far rather fight through a shady warranty situation than run the #Windows it originally shipped with. It's not even close. I am far and away more productive in my dayjob because of Fedora. As much as I've absolutely loved this #ThinkPad, I'll drop Lenovo before I drop Fedora.

Just got an email from #Lenovo that they won't replace the failed hard drive on my #ThinkPad under warranty because "#Fedora #Linux is not a supported operating system on this model." 😩

@vwbusguy I can put in a good word for Framework, so far. When you're looking for a new laptop, I would check them out. Or System76. I had a second-hand System76 laptop that I passed on to my brother that *just* died somewhere past its 10 year mark, if I'm not mistaken.

@vwbusguy I pine for the day where I can use Linux as my full time rig in my day job. This all in for Microsoft for the gig (for laptops) I'm in is maddening. Especially since we use mostly Linux on the backend, except for the MS-SQL servers left over from a merger, which have their own special brand of hell.
-
@vwbusguy if you install ubuntu to a usb and on booting it you find it cant use the HD would that satisfy the support requirement?
-
@stevelord Who knows, but this guy just became my pet. He's wasted my time, so I'm about to become a very annoying and obnoxious customer until I've wasted their time beyond the cost of just replacing the laptop under warranty like they should have done to begin with (and/or until they do the right thing and just replace it).
I might have let it go if they had just asked me to ship the whole laptop back to begin with, but because they made this about Fedora, the circumstances have changed.

@thatjpwing I don't know whether or not I should tell you that you can run mssql on Linux in a container, because I've done it before and it felt very dirty.

@jzb I didn't have the best experience with my last System76. It did not hold up well at all.
The Framework 16 seems viable, but I couldn't see any option for an extended warranty (my employer requires 4 years). How's the battery life? I'm intrigued by the idea of being able to physically swap out of the dGPU to save power on battery mode.

@jzb Also curious what you use for a dock. The ThinkDock for my ThinkPad has been very handy but doesn't seem to play well with my other laptops.
