WTF you talking about? We had MTV, Cinemax, HBO (Hey Beastmaster's On!). You could spend 24/7 watching that.
We had phones, land-lines you had to talk to one person at a time; girls would spend their lives on the phone.
We had videogames. Just one more try at an impossibly hard game with a time limit and no saves, not like baby-easy games now (Soulslikes excepted).
We had BBS's, which you can't imagine the flame wars.

@mdhughes soulslikes are still bullshit as you have quicksaves. Our games were literally designed to kill you off in under 5 minutes of play.

@octothorpe True, but if you had a Game Genie or whatever you could snapshot, and there were always cheats in magazines. up up down down left right left right B A
Other day I was playing Defender (emulated Atari 800) and kept clearing waves for like 10, 15 minutes. I was *done* when I died, had enough stimulation for a few days. Could've snapshotted & restarted.

@mdhughes oh, I was just thinking down at the cornershop, where we had to pay to play. The home versions were radically easier. I could hit all the levels on Donkey Kong at home, but never past level 2 in the arcades.
