I read a piece about the "epidemic of loneliness" apparently sweeping people my age and I have thoughts.
I accept that making friends and staying in touch doesn't come as easy now as it did when I was younger. But there's something to be said for solitude, also.
My inward life is so much more important to me now, and I experience it the most profoundly in those moments of stillness.

@flargh also, I think there’s something really weird with being in your 50s and still somehow in touch with people you went to secondary school with because of social media.
There’s something important about moving on, and writing new chapters.

@octothorpe At this point Facebook gives an anthropological curiosity about those remote friends but I'm way beyond confusing that parasocial arrangement with legitimate intimacy.
