Welcome people from #TikTok checking it out here.

All I know is YOU should not limit MY speech. Either this app is pro free speech or is a censorship hellscape. I’m starting to worry.

The promise of the Fediverse is that you choose what instance you're on: you can find instances for any point on the political spectrum. Yes, there are even MAGA instances if that's what you want.
Your free speech, by definition, cannot be violated on the Fediverse: at worst, you'll simply be kicked out, just like any real-world club. But there are other clubs, other instances, always.
I haven't violated your free speech by telling you how the Fediverse works. I do not have authority to affect you in any way whatsoever, and even if I did, I am not the government. I've given you information: it is your choice what you want to do with it.
Even if I wanted, I couldn't prevent you from saying anything, and even if I could, that wouldn't be a violation of your right to free speech, as I am not the government.

Not talking about the right to free speech. I’m talking about apparent content moderation on Mastodon. Here’s a tip for you. If you don’t like someone’s hashtag, move on! Don’t tell them it’s “unacceptable” to post hashtags and accuse them of spamming. Not a good look and these apps will quickly fade away.

Such software exists, but it's really more a "base software" and plugins that implement different features on top of it. Problem, the UI of these apps tends to become extremely cluttered and overwhelming quickly, so a lot of people prefer the simplicity and ease of use of Mastodon and Pixelfed.
Could check out Hubzilla, (streams), and Bonfire if you want an all-in-one experience.

Oh, great then.
Usually, I do "just move on". But you're new; you don't know how the software works. I tried helping.
Anyhow, I don't want to continue to participate in this conversation, being blamed for Mastodon's inevitable death is not my thing. Good luck in finding refuge.

@mastodonmigration Would we not recommenr pixelfeld or loops directly? Seems more tailored towards what I expect former vid/image-hosting users are looking for.

I’m gonna try to channel the entire TikTok generation responding to this thread.
“Ugh”.

@mastodonmigration @Getoutside737 I’ve just joined Pixelfed.Scot and I like it!

Yes, thanks! Edited.

You have a point. The top post was a tip for searching Videos on Mastodon, but if they are looking for a picture/video app then Pixelfed maybe more appropriate. Added links to Pixelfed and Loops to the top thread.

Fair. Not holding Mastodon up as a TikTok replacement, just offering some tips for managing images and videos here.

I wish there was a blanket no porn setting.
People complain they must opt out of AI when it should be opt in. I feel the same about porn. -

@essjayjay
@FrozenPeach @mastodonmigrationDo you guys run across a lot of porn? I see basically none (but I do mostly follow …nerds). One person I follow posts some mildly nsfw pics but always puts them behind a cw.
Could you use a filter to put anything sensitive behind a warning?
-
@Jackiemauro @essjayjay @FrozenPeach
No generally, but if you start searching for pictures and video it will appear in the results. Using the -is:sensitive modifier works very well to filter it out.
