After 2012, some Republicans worried that an evolving electorate, driven by young and non-White voters, had shifted against them permanently.
-
@argv_minus_one @mastodonmigration @pbump You hit the white men in the one area they care about: their wallets. They clearly don't (as a whole group) care about much else. Granted, there are exceptions, but just, on the whole, well, it seems like that's all they care about: their own money.
-
If they cared about their wallets, wouldn't they all be voting for Harris? I'm certainly not the first person to point out that a tariff on a foreign good is actually a sales tax on the Americans who buy it, nor am I the first person to notice that we're being price gouged, and yet these people still unwaveringly support Trump.
The only thing they seem to consistently care about is cruelty: making women, children, LGBT+ people, and non-white people suffer.

This is actually a very good point. For some reason people, mostly men, think he is 'better on the economy.' It's like they just think men must be better with money and strangely don't remember the economic horrors of his presidency. It is so monumentally stupid to think a grifter con man is somehow going to be better for the economic health of the country. But they do, because... men.

@argv_minus_one @JustRosy @mastodonmigration @pbump The propagandists keep tellng them otherwise. They go along.
-
@mastodonmigration @argv_minus_one @pbump Just when I think we've moved beyond their thinking like that, I'm reminded of all the old tropes about women driving, women working, women having credit and taking out loans, women graduating with degrees, women going into space, women competing in professional sports, women doing anything but being baby-bakers, etc. I needed that reminder. Can't get lazy in my brain about it. Progress doesn't mean the work is done!

Where the hell did they get that ridiculous idea?
The most financially responsible people I know are all women. I was taught to be financially responsible by a woman. The foremost man in my life, meanwhile, stubbornly insists on buying cars he can't afford.
If these guys think women are bad with money, they've never actually allowed women to manage money, and have no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Without the slightest shred of logical scrutiny.
Like, what the hell makes them think that a billionaire, who is already richer than God regardless of taxes, is suddenly going to grow a conscience and share his wealth just because his taxes were reduced? It should be painfully obvious that tax cuts for the rich only makes them richer!

@argv_minus_one @JustRosy @mastodonmigration @pbump Right. Because he *says so!!!!* On our local news a student at the U saidthat they were voting for 45 b/c they were in the military and he said those wars wouldn't have happened if he had been president and they believed him.
So many layers... -

@mastodonmigration @pbump Gen Z men are kind of “normal”, relative to a shitty baseline.
But my oh my, Gen Z women just aren’t having it.

Feel like it's kind of about billionaire envy. They look at assholes like Musk and Thiel and think, "Those guys fly around on private jets and hate women. Seems pretty cool ."
And it's kind of about superstar envy. They are bombarded with he-man bro talk on sports shows and podcasts and think, "I wanna be a superstar Trump loving jerk too."
Men have a lot of toxic role models to aspire to. Maybe more Tim Walz counter programming would be a good idea.

And they think behaving like Trump will somehow make them rich like Trump?
That's literally cargo-cult mentality.
Which I guess isn't surprising.

Does he not get it yet that Trump lies all the time? No. This is a lame excuse to vote for the toxic narcissist fascist misogynist because... ... man.

Had to look up "cargo cults"...
"Usage often relates to the ideas of desire (particularly for wealth and material goods) and relatedly consumerism and capitalism, ritual action and the expectation of rational results from irrational means"
Perfect description of the quixotic motivations behind this kind of idolatry.

These numbers reflect millions of men and women & show, even in the worst cohort, that there are many men who don’t want #TheFelonyGuy.
Shaming all men for the opinions of the majority is easy, but it’s the very essence of prejudice. I see women at his rallies, they revel in being his supporters.
Both sexes contain people who support him, convinced he is standing up for them.
Instead of shaming them, it behooves us to communicate to them why their choice is so self destructive. -

No argument. Not talking about all men. Just the majority of them who support Trump.
This is a subject we should be talking about.

I see the older cohort (which I inhabit) is trending wiser, but I think that the numbers are wrong. I know that the silent generation tends more conservative, but we old timers of the boomers are much more liberal. Also, among this oldest grouping there has been a natural Darwinian culling, due to the antivax philosophy of its weakest, and I hope that is going to produce a strong blue tint to the upcoming silver wave that I am hoping will knock the MAGA GOP into the dustbin of history.
