How to Debate Donald Trump | The Nation, by Elie Mystal
There’s almost no way to “win” a debate against a serially unserious liar like Trump, but if Harris can knock him off his vibe, she might stand a chance.

Look up how to counter a Gish gallop.

Choose the weakest, dumbest, most ludicrous argument that the galloper has presented and tear that argument to shreds ("the weak point rebuttal"). Do not budge from the issue or move on until having decisively destroyed the nonsense and clearly made the counter point. (Wikipedia)
But this is not what Mystal proposes and I think he has a point. Trump is not going to present any arguments but just focus on insult and show.

Think one of the important points made in countering a Gish gallop is to call it out as such. Harris does this well with her dismissal of his race baiting as just the same old tired tricks, let's move on. When he serves up word salad, she has the opportunity to say something like "I have no idea what you are saying and neither does anyone else, because you are not making any sense. I realize that's your tactic, but this nonsense talk has gotten old. Please just answer the question."
