A concensus seems to be emerging that the CNN interview was good for the Harris campaign specifically because it demonstrated in spades that CNN is a hostile entity taking it's marching orders directly from her opposition.

"... the idea that we are now simply recycling things Donald Trump says into what the media wants to know, as if that is helpful to any voter?" [Reid]
"This was the best gift that the media and the establishment could have given to her," Blow said.

Seems like there is some sort of karmic serendipity at work here, that the more the billionaire fascist complex works to destroy the power of the people, the more their corrupt agenda is exposed, and the more it works contrary to their nefarious intent.

I thought it was an insult to the VPOTUS

@mastodonmigration A prime example of my contempt for today’s MSM.
They’re asking questions for things *they* want to know to just generate controversy. And eyeballs.
Versus doing the job of real journalism and asking questions that will inform the public.
Dana Bash’s reaction when Harris didn’t rise to her bait about Trump questioning her racial identity was telling. Bash was so hoping to generate a reaction and was so disappointed when she got nothing.
Bash wasted a valuable opportunity to ask a substantive question on petty BS.
Sad.

Good point. Incredibly disrespectful. Abnoxious actually.

Excellent observations. They have ceased informing the public, and transitioned into influencing the public through disinformation. It is an abdication of journalism.

@cavalierbob @mastodonmigration The only thing I hope to understand is to what extent journalists like Bash are happily along for the ride, grudgingly going along with demonstrably unethical and unprofessional conduct, or pushing back to try and do as much quality journalism as corporate allows. That is the story I hope somebody tells before all the journalists are gone and all we get is daily tweet from the king.

@dcdeejay @mastodonmigration I’d love to give them the benefit of the doubt. But after the interview last night and her and Jake Tapper’s horrible job as moderators in the Biden-Trump debate, they just seem in the bag.

The CNN anchors and correspondents that have principles left or got fired. In addition to Brian Stelter, these included Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and [edit: removing Jeffery Toobin because of the circumstances of his firing, see below]. CNN also cleaned house, firing more than 100 staff positions after getting purchased by John Malone in 2022.

@mastodonmigration @cavalierbob Maybe. I'm looking at the shades of grey here. Not everyone has the personal strength, support network or financial ability walk away from their career. Maybe they're thrilled about it. Maybe they hate getting up in the morning. I don't think any of us know *that*. Those are the answers I hope to get someday.

To be fair, I don't think Toobin got fired over his principlesCNN’s Jeffrey Toobin Embroiled in New Scandal With Woman Who ‘Wouldn’t’ Abort His Baby
CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin — who infamously got caught with his hands in his pants during a Zoom meeting in 2020 — reportedly tried to pay a colleague's daughter to get an abortion after he got her pregnant. When the woman refused, Toobin denied the boy was his and only paid child support after...
