@voltagex strong “opinionated open source developer who believes endless tinkering should be done by everybody because *they* enjoy it” vibes.
The fucking about aspect of HA is the reason I'm not presently using it (it's there, all my devices are there, but the level of dicking required isn't my jam).
-
@voltagex I used HA for years. Years. It did everything, it switched on my lights, it controlled my solar battery system, everything. But, the updates. The updates, they’re relentless, and broke so many things for no reason. New features, they got them. Old features that are broken? Meh, it’s got new features though!
I’m using SmartThings for 90% of my stuff now, and Node-Red for the few automations I need for my solar system.
SmartThings just works, and mostly runs locally on the hub. Heck, you can even run multiple hubs and they share the load and failover. If you’ve a relatively moder Samsung TV, they have a hub built in too.

Getting a fair amount of pushback on this on their Discord too.

@voltagex 've never been able to get on with HA's magic, opacity and changes. I think it's clearly not for you. If you want something more stable maybe OpenHab or Domoticz would be better?

@stevelord I'm 4 years in, mostly venting. I may rip it out if I move in to a new place. Thanks though.

@voltagex @stevelord There is work underway to get HomeAssistant into #Debian . This may be of interest to you, as it'll likely provide a more stable base. See https://wiki.debian.org/Python/HomeAssistant
