i have a little over half a theory that software development houses have all decided/realised that software is maxed out and everything forward is more or less maintenance and that AI is the last shot they've got to avoid that for a while - after which they wouldn't (in theory) need many developers
that latter part is stupid, but the former part maybe not as much
if we weren't in this goddamn election i'd be thinking about it more, that's why it's a half-baked half-theory at best

It has a feeling of truth to it.
Tech has always struggled with the “boring work”.
Having nothing else left would certainly be existential for it, and possibly help explain the wild hallucinating clippy fad as a mid life crisis for the tech sector.
