In light of the whole word press situation, I would like to reiterate that free software institutions should be giving the same kind of attention and support to project governance as they do to licenses.

It's badly overdue. I think we can say it's dereliction not to.

@jenniferplusplus lots of advice about licences, not so much about governance
Do you know any good resources?

@spdegabrielle Honestly, I don't. I wish I did. The closest I've got ready is the book Producing Open Source Software, by Karl Fogel. But it's not what I wanted it to be. Sooooo much of it is just how to communicate over mailing lists.

@jenniferplusplus @hello What is the Wordpress situation? I might have missed it.
-
@weston @jenniferplusplus Some context:
TL;DR, the CEO of Automattic is blocking a vendor from accessing WordPress.org infrastructure, after publicly calling them out and shaming them at a big community event that they happened to be a sponsor of. It negatively affects all of the vendor’s customers, but Matt Mullenweg is kind of just dressing this up to look like he’s on the side of progress and justice, when it’s really just a brazen money grab.

@weston @hello
You can probably check the #wordpress hashtag right now.The short version is that the ceo of automattic is mad at wp engine, they did some mutual legal posturing, and then automattic blocked wp engine hosted sites from accessing the WordPress plugin registry at the network level, which is an enormous breach of trust, not to mention reckless from a security perspective.

This also applies to social web projects, and the institutions nominally supporting them.
To be clear.
