I have created a #spotify #playlist that I would love everyone to save and support. It’s full of independent artists (mostly) I want to curate a playlist that generates actual plays and creates real fans for artists.
51 saves so far. Let’s boost those numbers
#music #newmusic #spotifyplaylist #savemyplaylist #altmusic #alternative

@dwaynewoods @meljoann I’d have saved it if I still used Spotify.

Yeahhh I mean I don’t have a Spotify account that actually plays the music you’re trying to play. I got a free one that I never use… it just tries to play me Ed Sheeran before anything I’d actually want to listen to. I did save it but that’s useless to the artists on the playlist
What we need is an alternative to feckin Spotify

@meljoann @dwaynewoods I vote @stefan to begin work on it
… but seriously, could it be possible for a FLOSS subscription-based player to stream from places like Mirlo as well as individual Faircamp platforms and to be able to divvy out the money made according to whose music is played?
As an example: Say I paid £10 per month to subscribe and my listening was broken down to:
5% Artist A,
4% Artist B,
3% Artist C,
2% Artist D
1% each for 76 other artists
…then 90% of my £10 that month would be paid out to those artists proportionately, saving 10% to go to platform fee (and any profits from that 10% then distributed evenly among all artists played at the end of each financial year). -

Yeah definitely, there are a lot of initiatives like that already but I think the problem is they are not interoperable? So each place ends up with quite a small catalog, artists would have to upload things a million times to be on em all haha
Streaming wise, I know of
- https://patrontape.com/
- https://minm.co/There are deffo more “bandcamp alternatives” out there like Mirlo & jam.coop etc. that are not focusing on streaming.

@meljoann @dwaynewoods @stefan Aye, either artists have to upload to every different place or users have to have multiple subscriptions. Neither is a viable option. There’s got to be a way…

Hah, if I had the time, that would definitely be interesting!
There are some pretty cool projects, as some of you have already mentioned. I'd also add https://bandwagon.fm, which you might be also familiar with.
