I probably need to take up some hobby that isn't done sitting in front of a computer.
Suggestions welcome.
(EDIT: I suppose I was thinking more about creative activities than physical exercise, but thanks a lot!)

@datarama hiking/rambling is nice

@datarama archery is pretty good for your back if you get the usual computer person back pain. Also pretty good for your mind but YMMV
-
@datarama how active? Bouldering is fun + easy to get started if you live near a climbing wall - a definite contrast to sitting at a desk but still a bit of problem solving involved. I also love running, but it originally took me quite a few months to get fit enough to enjoy it!
-
@profan My cousin does that a lot, and it seems to be great for him.
Unfortunately, I have very bad fallen arches and walking long distances gets painful even with orthotics.
-
@ehproque My back is actually oddly good, for a sedentary computer person in his 40s. But it actually sounds pretty fun. I might check out if there's an archery club or something of the sort nearby.
-
@tamsin Running is a problem due to my feet (terrible fallen arches; even with orthotics too much strain on the feet hurts!).
But bouldering might be fun.
-
@datarama I did wonder if you meant more creative hobbies, sorry I can't help there (I've recently been having a play with pixel art, partly inspired by your posts and partly by my son who's been learning unity, so that's no help )
-
@tamsin I am genuinely happy that I've inspired you.

@datarama welding is fun, you get to make really strong things! I've just made this metal H-shaped bar mounted to the wall so I can lean my ladder without it pressing on the plastic gutter. Basic stick welders are cheap and you can start practising on bits of scrap.

@kitten_tech The local makerspace actually has a metalshop with some welding tools!
