at last, i exhale - "when air collapsed within", is available for preorder through @dragonseyerecordings for #bandcampfriday - haunted drones and frayed distortion smears detail into splotched smears of colour as the turbulence of anxiety looms through every moment
an album about healing through irrational but oppressive trauma and rebuilding the connection to my creative voice, i pray it offers comfort, familiarity, and a space of hope
when air collapsed within, by our dear friend, the medic
when air collapsed within by our dear friend, the medic, releases 04 October 2024 1. when air collapsed within [excerpt 1] 2. when air collapsed within [excerpt 2] 3. when air collapsed within In the summer of 2024, our dear friend, the medic experienced a sudden and severe panic attack while alone on a walk in the sweltering heat. “when air collapsed within” is an intimate, blurry glance into the violence of the moment and the months of relentless tension and aftershocks that followed. Through digital synths, sampled instrumentation, field recordings, granular processing, and other experimental techniques, the musicality and harmonics of noise and saturation are embraced in a new direction for her sound - simulating the overload of nerves in such a perpetually heightened state. Details become frayed, woollen and unfocused as the mind disconnects from external stimuli to protect itself from the inescapable sense of dread lingering within every shadow or sunbeam. Yet one thing remains true as with all of our dear friend, the medic’s work: this is music to heal to. Solace is found in places of calm, and a gradual sense of hope wells up into a stunning catharsis where the world once again becomes clear. Presented as a single track to emphasize the dissolution of structure and loss of control experienced during the time, “when air collapsed within” not only chronicles only the voltaic trauma of feral anxiety, but serves as a documentation of recovery as the medic struggled to compose through the ceaseless fear that gripped her mind, and how the act of creation itself aided in finding her voice once again.
