For context “grassroots” unrest started in Brazil after it joined in 2013. Bangladesh overthrew its govt this year in a similar “grassroots” students movement while on its way to join. Argentina retired at last minute following Milei’s election…
Even the Saudis, always a US vassal, are starting to sell oil in Yuans.

“ ‘It just gives them [Cuba] another formal channel to ask a government for help’, said John Kavulich, a longtime Cuba watcher and president of the U.S.-Cuba Trade and Economic Council.”
A good summary of the attitude that brings very different countries to join an economic alliance headed by other ex-colonies. If every country that we Europeans invaded moves under China’s wing (because it can’t be worse?) both Euro and Dollar are going to lose value pretty fast.

There is a certain blindness both in Europe and the US regarding their “traditional alliance” with their ex-colonies and their will to remain friendly vassals.
And obviously a certain ignorance of how much of Europe’s wealth depends on continued control over the politics of such ex colonies. Most don’t care that Russia is an aggressive military power or that China is supposedly more dystopian than the rest of the world. When offered better trade conditions many will change side with no regret.

Interesting bit about BRICS expansion : Ethiopia and Egypt which were the only large African countries to be independent at end of WW2 joined BRICS this year.
Should give you a hint of what may happen next.
