House Rejects Budget Bill Containing SAVE Act as Government Shutdown Looms
The U.S. House voted 202-220 to reject a bill that would have funded the government for the next six months and implemented a proof of citizenship requirement for voter registration. Senate Democrats and President Joe Biden were already planning to oppose the bill if it reached them.

That it could stop eligible voters is an understatement: it's likely to shut down the entire ability to register for most americans, meaning voting registration would effectively close as soon as this thing is passed at the end of this month. It also won't prevent non-citizens from voting, because they are already prevented from voting: you have to give valid information about being a citizen, like your social security number, in order for a voter registration to even work.
