Dear Justin,

Dear Justin,
You promised electoral reform when you came to power forever ago.
You reneged on that promise, probably because the status quo usually suits the Liberal Party just fine.
But it’s not too late!
Do it now!
Before we’re doomed to 5+ years of PC majority built on 35% of the popular vote - uphold your promise!
Do it to preserve your legacy!
Do it to make our politics more representative!
Do it to make pp *really* angry!

I like "Do it to make PP really angry".
I mean, under anything but FPTP, LPC will lose seats, but not as many as CPC. -

@tezoatlipoca The idea of his little sputtering face is reason enough…
But truthfully, the reason that toxic politics are successful in Canada is because catering to a radicalized minority is enough to bring a government to power.
A more proportional system grants those people their voice without forcing the rest of us to be governed by their grievances for 5 years at a time.

@mick Changing the rules of the game because you think you're going to lose is not fair play. If the federal government ever changes the electoral system, it should be done with deliberation, care and (ideally) with broad consensus. Otherwise there's a good chance it will all blow up.
For what it's worth, I think there's much to be said for voting with ranked ballots (as in Australia), which was apparently PM Trudeau's preferred electoral system.

@mpjgregoire of course, the way to do it is through referendums and consensus.
The reason to do it is because it will build a healthier Canadian democracy.
But doing so would also stick a big middle finger right in the eye of one of the sleaziest politicians Canadians have ever seen.
It’s win-win, is what I’m saying.
