Here's my guide to the install process on my little homelab system.

@bonfire A huge thank you to the Bonfire development team for sticking with me as I went through the install process. Their patience never ran thin anytime I asked for help. Consider contributing to their work financially, through testing and feedback, or even join in on the development!

@box464 Nice! I've been thinking of making a turn-based game that's played over ActivityPub at some point although I find the protocol quite difficult to implement as a dev sadly.
-
@ch0ccyra1n I can’t argue with that. The good news is that I’m starting to see development resources being built and promoted. Even a new oreilly book coming out that covers the protocol.
Would love to see SDKs or even services you can buy like an email provider to just attach to your projects. Maybe in a few years…

@box464 «Sometimes I have a difficult time finding the IP address of the new VM. I have yet to find it in the ProxMox UI anywhere? If I didn’t jot it down during the Ubuntu install, I end up going into my DHCP leases and finding the MAC address and the related IP from there» — you must have skipped on checking the guest agent option in proxmox or actually installing the qemu-guest-agent on the guest vm; with both conditions met, the ip should be immediately available via proxmox wui, static or dynamic.

@picard It just so happens that tomorrow (Thursday), the @coopcloud alternative install (the preferred, simpler one) is going to demonstrate how to get started in a live stream tomorrow if you want to check it out.
I don't think they are installing Bonfire but it should show you how to get setup with their system.

@tivasyk Hey, I appreciate the response, and that's exactly what it was. I took a dive into learning more about the qemu agent and added that to my notes. Thanks again!

thanks for connecting us @box464!
I was planning on doing Hometown during the demo, but could switch out for Bonfire if folks who turn up are more interested in that..
EDIT: ah I remember why I picked Hometown, I wanted to focus on apps which do single sign-on. Last I checked that was being worked on for Bonfire but not quite ready yet. But happy to do a bonus Bonfire deployment at the end!

@coopcloud @picard That's generous of you. Consider it a bonus round if there's time left, but don't put pressure on yourself at the last minute. Looks like you have your practice run all setup with some great apps already. I'm going to try and be there!
