It’s a slippery slope into mayhem, but I think I can contain myself. (After all, I’ve successfully limited the number of mechanical keyboard purchases as well).
All in an off-hour at the local maker space (@maakplek) with the help of a friend.🧡

@mahryekuh Hey, I find the idea of this maker space very cool, but my Dutch isn’t amazing and I’m way more comfortable speaking English. Would it still be viable to attend the borrel evenings?

@elisse This maker space is in #Groningen, so if you're around, feel free to visit! There is an "open" evening every third Tuesday of the month starting at 20:00.
While most of the communication is in Dutch, we have switched to English several times for others who don't (feel comfortable) speak Dutch!

@mahryekuh I’m not that close but it would be viable occasionally, I mostly struggle with being shy and lacking fluent Dutch Thanks for the information!

@elisse There are other maker spaces and hacker spaces throughout the country, although I am relatively new to the concept and don't know them all.
The people I've met so far love to build cool stuff and help others with their projects, too, so I would recommend looking into local spaces if you want.
If you join the Groningen drinks session, there may also be people with specific suggestions for your locality.

@elisse Also, Dutch people care relatively little if you're not a fluent speaker.
After all, immigrants typically complain they can't learn the language because Dutch people won't stop speaking English to them.
