Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Note that this is a new "Ecorecord” pressing, which isn't pressed at all, but rather it's injection moulded. A pristine example, and a promising technology…

@dnanian oooh! I know there was some experimentation with injection moulding. I didn’t realise the Coldplay album was one of the examples.
Do you have an original pressing to compare? (I don’t care for them, so I donnow the quality of earlier pressings).
-
@octothorpe (I purposefully bought their EcoRecord releases to see what the surfaces were like on multiple LPs. Initial results are quite promising, but I have no idea how long they'll wear, given they're PET and not PVC.)

@dnanian Fremer was pretty positive about one of them (I forget which album it was, but you probably saw it as well). Usually manufacturing is all about tradeoffs… there seem to be a lot of upsides to this new method, so I’m curious about the downsides.
-
@octothorpe My guess is that part of the downside is the expense of the machine, which would have to be amortized over an awful lot of pressings…
-
@dnanian Sure, but I’m also under the impression the care and feeding of the new machines are waaaaay less as well. We’re now ostensibly in ‘big analogue CD’ world now. No more giant presses, no more mother/father process, etc. It is of course, totally new infra, ao big outlay. Considering plants are backed up, maybe this means there’s room for a new competitor. It’s fascinating.
