Was looking for import data on energy and came across this "Hourly Electric Grid Monitor”. Super interesting!
I've attached the US-wide electric grid stat for the past 30 days and the "Bonneville Power Administration" which is the thing that apparently figures out the electriicty balancing in the PacNW including from BCHydro
The US chart has both Mexico and Canada imports... looks like during the recent cold snap the US was actually *exporting* significantly to Canada? And now has switching to net import? (Do I have this backwards?)
On the PNW chart, “BCHA" The BC Hydro Power Authority is highlighted. It looks to be consistent exporter over the past week.

@chris seems like BC Hydro could be making cheap power for Canadian manufacturers, just spitballing you know?

@chris there’s a nation building pro-industry project begging to happen. WTF? No one can trust the USA for anything ever again. New reality, start working

@CodieneC @fletch @chris Merging grids is easier said than done and not necessarily desirable. Each grid has its own 60hz synchronization, so. Export/import between is possible but requires conversion from AC to DC and then back to AC in the other side's 60hz cycle. (As Québec does when selling to Ontario, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusets. ) Having a single unified grid risks bringing the whole country down if a problem arises (lookup North East Grid outage.

@CodieneC @fletch @chris Of Alberta is to stay in Canada, BC's role is to sell it electricity so AB can ween itself from fossil fuels. That is a big enough task and BC need not be concerned about Ontario.
Québec can upgrade interchanges with Ontario and instead of selling to USA, can sell to Ontario.
