Is there a "normie" or more mainstream instance for Lemmy?

I can understand blocking political words, but Linux? You might as well browse 9gag at that point.

False. The Liberals are generally centre-right even within Canada. Your compass is off.
Your Newtonian physics argument is nonsensical and frankly rude.

I tried it and the owner calls himself “Deimos” (god) and acts like it. He bans people for any and no reason, including disagreeing with him. I ended up being banned for having an opinion about something he disagreed with.

I had hoped your question would yield some informative responses because as a normie I am struggling to find a more centrist space here. Every community from technology to memes is wall to wall “DEA TRUMP HITLER!?” I get it, I don’t like him, but surely there are other things to discuss besides that? The users are obsessed with American politics and as a non-American it’s exhausting and I think a little pathetic. Do they have nothing else going on in their lives?
The responses confirmed that the users don’t want opposing opinion and instead really, REALLY want an echo chamber. Message received.

I’ve been building a Lemmy client that tries to remove the friction that comes with the Fediverse (Quiblr
For onboarding, users can naturally pick any instance, but I set lemmy.world as the default because the admins are super responsive and they’ve taken steps to scale effectively. Hopefully, this results in a smooth experience for new joiners

I think it's unfair to just assume they are far right cause they are American. Right wing? Sure. More likely to be far right? Also sure. This doesn't mean we should not welcome them and then try to show them that their specific view points are unfounded (or maybe ours are, there's the point of discussion). Not just assume they are Nazis when they just ask why people here seem different to them

Very true, we need everyone to be open minded. Both those on the platform but also those coming in. I hope the comunity can keep the discourse constructive. Hope you can enjoy the platform!

I think your core message is completely true. But imho, probably this is what op is talking about with people yelling at their friend. Taking such a forceful stance will push those that are unsure away which is the exact opposite of what we need.
With that said, the fact that you just assumed their stance on politics from a generalised complaint of 'my friend got yelled at' is completely unfounded, unfair, and definitely will push away anyone who would consider themselves moderates. Baseless clames is literally how trump became elected and that's not a good foundation for someone to get elected on

They're blocked because they're tankies, not because they're left (I'm not even sure tankies can be considered left wing, as much as they claim to be).
(And others because of trolling; and others yet haven't been blocked, they defederated themselves.)

I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."
And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer." and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed
Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them."
And i was like, ohok and he continues.
"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.
And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.
And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people."
And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.
— @IamRageSparkle, 2020, on the microblogging site that later let the fascists in.
Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance.
If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.
We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.

Lemm.ee was specifically created during the reddit exodus as a way to manage the influx and is very loosey goosey. Unfortunately that means you have to block the horrible instances manually, but it is what you're looking for I believe

alternatives to republicanism
You calling spez's little playground and a far right “enlightened centrist” instance like . world “left-wing” makes it abundantly evident to anyone with more than half a brain and the slightest bit of education that any supposed alternatives to fascism you'd find acceptable would be effectively indistinguishable from fascism.
Only fascists and idiots would want to be appealing to fascists.
It's a very good thing that you don't feel welcome outside of your fascist echo chambers.

It's a well known fact that .world admins have wet dreams at night about spez seeing what good boys they've been and rewarding them by making them reddit admins and letting them suckle his little pigboy twig.

The USA is neither mainstream nor normal.
It's a literal fascist shithole.
President Musk is doing nazi salutes on live television and anyone calling him right of centre gets labelled as a communist and a terrorist.
No one who isn't a fascist wants that kind of shit to be considered mainstream or normal.

In any civilised society American “Democrats” are considered far right (Biden et al) to centre right (Sanders).
Republicans are self admitted fascist lunatics.
Don't expect American standards when you get out of your fascist echo chamber.
