Tawny Newsome Says Live Action Star Trek Workplace Comedy Will Explore Life Outside The Federation

Star Trek always had some levity. And all the other new Trek has always felt too serious - they've been constantly saving the Federation/humanity/Galaxy/universe. If they need to make a funny show on order to tell a funny story, then give. Go for it.

We don't need a comedy, or a romance, or a drama, thriller, sitcom, etc. spin-off of Star Trek.
That is exactly what I want to see. The Star Trek universe is one filled with such hope, and I want to see that in a day to day capacity.
I think Lower Decks handled it perfectly and if the same crew can produce a live action show in a slightly different scenario then I'm in.
Besides one show isn't going to kill Star Trek. Star Trek has some real stinkers out there (and a new one is coming in January).

They've cancelled Discovery, Prodigy, Picard, Lower Decks, and you're worried they're going to over-do it? If they do it much less, there wont be any Trek left!

Yes, the fact that they had 4 shows to cancel is a sign they are over-doing it .
I'm fine with waiting years before we get another Trek, it's nothing new.

star trek {ship name} exploring the galaxy as primary mission plz and thank u
-
i donno if they could do it without making it season 1 discovery levels of pettiness.
-
I've wanted an Outside the Federation show for a while. I hope they bring back Cassidy Yates. More Maquis would also be sick
-
I think a Star Trek series without Star Fleet being the main focus would be amazing

Don't a ton of the episodes deal with life outside the federation, boldly go where no (hu)man has gone before and all that? Hell, DS9 took place on a space station outside the federation...
Or do they mean outside Starfleet? I wouldn't mind that show, it'd be nice to see the daily lives of people in or out of the Federation who aren't part of a pseudo-military style organization.
Also... Risa was part of the Federation. Unless that was retconned with nu-trek or something...

Sure, I’d understand your sentiment more when all those shows were being announced, rather than after they’ve all been canned. Right now we’re looking at ten episodes plus the Section 31 special in the coming year, which doesn’t seem like over doing it to me. But I was raised on seasons of twenty-plus episodes, so maybe I’m spoiled.

The Starwarsification of the franchise began with the reboot films. These new shows aren't contributing to that, imo. If anything, the Star Wars shows are Startrekifying their cinematic universe, which isn't such a terrible thing..

They've cancelled Discovery, Prodigy, Picard, Lower Decks
Was Prodigy canceled again after it was revived for a second season? Or is there still a chance for a third season?

So a shitty version of Orville? No thanks.
-
Finally! I'm willing to bet it's gonna take place on a cafe or gumbo shop.
-
Is that not Strange New Worlds?
-
Or TOS... TNG... Voyager... Enterprise...

Every reddit-brained geek said the same thing about LD and then ended up liking it so I'm glad Paramount isn't listening to the fearful fans.
Risk is our business!

For some reason this quote popped into my head:
Q: The Jean-Luc Picard you wanted to be [...] learned to play it safe. And he never, ever got noticed by anyone.

It began with Generations, really. The point that we don't need more sloppy, shitty Star Trek content still stands.

I want to see more of the Neo-transcendentalists and their society. I love the bisexual swinger vibes, but I also understand why Andy Billups bugged out and joined starfleet.
Sometimes you just want to clean a plasma coil without all the drama.
