The /r/piracy link to lemmy /c/piracy hit the reddit frontpage with 7K+ updoots!

Is this really just the "backup site"? Boo, I say. Boooooo.
Also, wasn't Reddit banning links to Lemmy or something? Maybe that was only in the run-up to the IPO?
It's not really the backup since last year, but the primary, but reddit won't let me shut down /r/piracy and the other mods who took over my top spot after reddit removed me still believe in reddit, so they refuse to leave and call lemmy still the backup.

We are called Lemmings over here!

There's still a lot of old, useful and informative posts on Reddit that I find via a Google search. It annoys me that whenever I find one of those posts, I have to go and edit the URL to be old.reddit instead of www.reddit otherwise it's so hard to use. Like, the useful thing is in the comments, but the comments are collapsed by default, so if you search for something you won't find it until you expand those comments.
If they get rid of old.reddit I think I'm going to end up using the wayback machine to get that old post rather than trying to use that horrible new reddit interface.
Agreed. New Reddit is terrible. I find having to flip to different pages to get to deeper replies particularly annoying.

It's weird how people smell babies, and are like "smell that baby! It has baby smell!"
But at some point they stop. I'm 41, and nobody ever lifts my shirt and smells me.

Hexadecanal is one of the most abundant substances emitted by human babies from their heads, which may be an evolutionary survival mechanism to induce mothers to defend the baby and fathers to not attack it. Isn’t .world the most populous instance? Hmm…
This is interesting. I get the impression that some admin/mods truly don’t understand how the Fediverse operates. They ban one (or a few) instance name(s), but there are so many more that they might not even recognize as Lemmy links, which get past the radar.
At the same time, there are fears here that .world could become disproportionately powerful compared to other instances, due to its high user count.
So in a way, Reddit blocking traffic to .world while permitting links to other instances can benefit us all. Smaller instances gain users, which is an important step toward balancing things out and keeping any one instance from becoming too powerful. Thanks, Reddit!
(I recognize the irony of having a .world account. I wasn’t aware of its standing in Lemmy when I made it. I am also still learning the Fediverse myself and don’t know how to transfer my account to another instance yet.)
I just read another comment (not sure if in this thread or another) saying that lemmy.world and lemmy.ml links are banned on Reddit. No idea if it's really true or not though.

Instead of manually editing the URL you can use an add-on like this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/old-reddit-redirect/

Fwiw, I prefer Fedizen, bc it works for other things too like Mastodon, Mbin, PieFed (where I'm typing this from btw), Friendica, etc.
But yeah, where you are, Lemming works too I suppose.
Hello fellow Fedizen!!!

My advice to newbies is to just sign up for whatever, then change later if ya need to. I think I tried 2 other instances before i found the one that fit best for me
I make like 10 accounts before i found one that worked for me. Luckily i can log them all into sync for lemmy and switch between them when im doom scrolling so i can doom scroll the same content 10 times before bed!

Hello! Now let's go grab a beer...

Relevant history. If you were there, you remember the call of the wild AOL'er, "Me too," ringing 'cross the network, usually as a top-posted comment.
I didn't realize Weird Al's line about "me too'ing like some brain-dead AOL'er" was referencing Eternal September, he would make that reference.

Nice. I was being lazy, I was thinking of writing my own add-on or tampermonkey script, but I didn't get around to it. I should have known there was already one out there.

Same. I was on Kbin, was denied at .world (not safe enough), then landed on lemm.ee.

I got banned from one because literally my second comment pissed off the mod!
Gooble gobble one of us! One of us!

reddit actually defended the piracy subreddit? lmao

Very dated Lemmy version. LW users still can't remove their uploaded media
It also blocks Tor, other instances don't
