I once shared a house with three chefs, who each told me that if youāre sending food back to the kitchen, itās better to state you donāt want anything else. Get the item removed from the bill and eat somewhere else. If you are with a group, suck it up and go hungry while they eat.
Not all chefs will do something but for some. their egos canāt handle that the food wasnāt right and they take ārevengeā.
Itās safer not to risk it.

We just want to get through the day and remaking a dish and cooking it in the first place is no different.
All customers are assholes but Iād never mistreat their food.

I ordered ramen at a restaurant. I should have guessed that they misheard me when they brought me latex gloves. A few minutes later, they carried out a platter of crab and other seafood.

Iām glad to hear that youāre a decent human being.
One of these chefs had worked in a top restaurant in Sydney, and said some of the crew were like animals, especially towards the end of a long and busy shift.
But to this day their warning always stuck in my mind. So I understand the glass reference.

I think itās hitting on with the fact that Americans are super impatient with anything and when they go to a restaurant they sit down they eat and then they leave thereās no big wait period of socializing(usually), it also could be because itās frowned upon because we donāt pay the waiters livable wages here, so for every minute that weāre still sitting and not ordering anything weāre taking money out of the Waiters pocket.
Thatās how ass backwards the US. But no the Tipping structure is apparently a better system lmao

It all depends to be honest Iām paying money for the food and I want the food to be done correctly. I receive a burger and itās ice cold in the center or the fries arenāt done Iāll send it back, however if itās just cold because itās been clear that it sat out for a little bit or they put the wrong ingredients on it Iāll suck it up and eat.
Being said, If I receive something that I didnāt order in replacement of something I did order Iām going to mention it. If the restaurant decides to throw it out thatās not me wasting food thatās the restaurant wasting food they could very easily have offered to give it any discount or gave it away. I refuse to have the blame of the kitchen be put on the consumer, the food it wouldnāt have been wasted in the first place if the order was correct and there are many outcomes that the business can do that would prevent the food from being wasted before and after its cooked.

yeah, it really depends on how it happens.
if i receive some other dish that also pleases me, im not sending it back cause i dont want it to go to waste. and if its cheaper than what i had ordered, im paying the price of what i got, at most. If what I receive is shit food, i really dont mind sending it back and it going in the trash or whatever. I believe the restaurant that takes a plate that someone has already taken a bite of and reserves it to someone else at a discount is infringing some sanitary lawā¦ at least where i live.

I was meaning offering it to the table at a discount, yeah if itās already been eaten from it should not be given to another table, if it hadnāt been eaten from then thatās a little different but yet definitely if itās been eaten from no way.
