@skinnylatte I guess they had them in San Jose for a while but someone got their ticket overturned iirc, this new law specifically authorizes them

@skinnylatte But it has those "speed enforced by aircraft" signs.
I always wonder, enforced with WHAT kind of weapon?

@skinnylatte I’m the first to admit CA drivers are a special flavor of terrible, but here in Oregon it seems like the drivers that are going to be terrible just do it around where the cameras aren’t, or even where the cameras are and dgaf. USA car culture, and especially oversized truck/SUV entitlement runs deeper than a few tickets I suspect.

@moss I looked up the license plate of my shitty neighbor who drives a truck in the most super dense neighborhood here, and he has like, 31 unpaid tickets

@skinnylatte I've lived and driven all over the country (USA) and I don't think #Cali drivers are worse than anywhere else.

@Bobsee I’ve lived and walked and cycled all over the world and I have seen way more fatal accidents in the Bay Area than I am comfortable with. I am also uncomfortable with how it is increasingly impossible to cross a street where I live without two or three large cars blocking the cross walk. If it’s not worse than elsewhere in America then I hope I don’t have to walk or bike elsewhere in America

@skinnylatte it’s wild because 40% of police work is traffic control and stops are pretty dangerous, from their perspective. https://bowiestate.edu/about/news/2024/new-report-reveals-police-officers-perspectives-on-traffic-stops.php#:~:text=Hyman%20reports%20that%20there%20are,dangerous%20than%20calls%20for%20service.
Traffic cameras mean less biased stops, more consistent accountability for rule breakers, etc. https://chicago.suntimes.com/other-views/2024/10/17/chicago-police-stop-black-drivers-speed-cameras-racial-bias-research-uic-conversation

@Ashedryden I don’t think I’ve lived somewhere without speed cameras before. Until today I never knew we didn’t have them
