A interesting detail about the launch of the Free Our Feeds gambit: Among the several "AI" founders, one of its "custodians" is Mallory Knodel, who also happens to be the Executive Director of the Social Web Foundation, the organization which has self-assumed stewardship of ActivityPub and the network it supports.
Additionally, Mallory contributed a blog post on the SWF website, promoting Free Our Feeds and the principle of "algorithmic pluralism": https://socialwebfoundation.org/2025/01/13/free-our-feeds-and-algorithmic-pluralism/
An excerpt: "Just imagine the impact of third-party recommendations and moderation systems, LLM diversity, and curation, news and information discovery."
What we are witnessing is the emergence of an interconnected non-profit industrial complex which is moneying up and appointing itself as the architect of the future of decentralized - and quasi-decentralized - social media. And apparently among its most urgent tasks is normalizing the "inevitability" of the imposition of "AI" onto the communities which rely on these networks.
Meanwhile, our cities are quite literally burning. We don't need to imagine the impact of "LLM diversity" - we can see it in the flames of Los Angeles

The "Free our Feeds" announcement is very much along the lines of the NPIC appointing itself architect of the future of decentralized social media.
"The Social Web Foundation convenes the network of platforms connected via ActivityPub. SWF's executive director is involved in the #FreeOurFeeds campaign as a custodian and you can read more about in her blog post"
