Yet another #selfDriving #vaporware product.
Remember: never pay for “future” features for your car. Only pay for things you can use when you drive off the lot

@nuthatch @octothorpe I’m being a bit tongue-in-cheek, but there were a lot of AI features that were marketed as “beta” and “coming later”

@drahardja @octothorpe someone said Hearing Test and Hearing Aid were “vaporware” because they didn’t ship immediately

@nuthatch @drahardja Well, it was announced, but it’s a thing that isn’t yet shipped. I totally think it’s reasonable to announce something prior to shipping it, as long as it makes the timeframe of shipping in the original announcement. ‘Paper launch’ may be more appropriate??
Adjacently, I also don’t think it’s ethical to review a product based on the promises of what will ship at a later date. You review what you were given. When new stuff is added, re-review.

@octothorpe @drahardja quoting the fine print from the AirPods page,
“Availability:
Some features may not be available in all regions or all languages, or with all makes and models.
The Hearing Test and Aid features are expected to receive marketing authorization from global health authorities soon and will be supported with AirPods Pro 2 with the latest firmware when paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad, and will be available this fall in more than 100 countries and regions, including the U.S., Germany, and Japan.”

@nuthatch @drahardja So not available yet, but in autumn. OK. This doesn't seem to contradict anything I said??

@nuthatch @drahardja Right, I'd call that a paper launch. Announced, but not yet shipping — which is fairly common/normal/fine. I'd consider vapour launches something more akin to missing the initial shipping window. That's my personal dividing line though. No idea how others may see it.
