Oh hey China's the major source of lithium for the US market, ain't they.

@[email protected] It's really obvious how much their ego got in front of them. A lot of things are going to be a collateral damage simply because they didn't think about the broader implications. This worries me a lot especially with things like the https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-taiwan-semiconductor-tariff-impact-china-tech-2022564 tariffs on Taiwanese semiconductors. Side note it's really disappointing that when looking for an article to back this up that a lot of them had really misleading headlines. I hate this particular one from newsweek "Deals Hammer Blow". No, Trump just shot the United States in the foot with a shotgun.

That's why I'm trying to figure out a solid term to use as an antonym for 'systems thinking' to describe their mindset -
Every single thing is a discrete judgement call for conservatives,
because their mindset requires cognitive dissonance,
so they're -unable- to engage in systems thinking that requires broad-spectrum concordance to work.

@[email protected] I'm really concerned about what this means for our industry. I'm not sure your particular title but I like to call myself a "system administrator". This is going to fuck me over significantly especially with vendors like Dell who are going to just shaft the shit out of everyone. It also has impacts on cars, I know the world loves to forget but I remember when https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/23/business/auto-semiconductors-general-motors-mercedes.html this happened. Now, sure okay one might try to argue "well less cars are good right?" and I'd be inclined to agree... except not like this. We do not have infrastructure in place to take over this load, we are lacking in public transportation. The last time this happened it was a shit show. Used car prices skyrocketed. Mechanics were weeks, months, years out. It's going to be awful.

I personally use “zero-sum thinking” for shorthand, but for a much better take, I really appreciated https://infosec.exchange/@Blueteamsherpa/113920502396048894

@[email protected] I think the worst part for me is that I can fathom some of the impact this will have... but I do not know the entirety of it. I can speculate and say that the medical industry is going to be impacted (yes, actually it turns out they also like to use semiconductors especially in things like X-ray machines). I do not have anything "concrete" on that like I do for the jacked up pricing of consumer hardware and the automotive industry. I mean for fucks sake, did NVIDIA ever deflate post chip shortage? Look at the price they're charging for graphics cards.
