I’ve mentioned before, in con talks and whatnot about how, a number of years ago, I was perfectly healthy and had a very strange seizure event, which the doctors said could be brought on by extreme stress. I was a very stressed out CISO when this happened.
A good friend of mine, also a CISO, in reasonably good shape, under 50 years old, suffered a heart attack this weekend. He’s fortunately doing well now.
This is incredibly stressful work. My work related brush with the healthcare system led me to change my perspective on how I approach things. I wrote this in the book SecOps in Practice:
“As a security professional you cannot, and should not, bear the sole responsibility of being the conscience of the entire company when it comes to data protection. However, you can work to build that conscience across all areas of the company by being an advocate for the safety and security of your end users.”
I think that’s an important distinction to remember. Stay healthy, my friends. #infosec

@SecureOwl I've gone to the ER for what ended up being a panic attack on an overnight shift in a SOC once. Felt like a large marble in my lung stabbing from the inside.
