It's hard to believe we are now ending just the second week of this new administration, which feels like several months already. But that's all part of the ideological blitzkrieg, right? Flood the zone.
The lack of any coherent response from Democrats to some of the blatantly illegal and gonzo stuff the White House and Herr Musk are now pulling is staggering. But it's a useful signal that it might make more sense for strategists to focus their efforts on identifying the vanishingly few senior GOP lawmakers who still have a spine.
You know, so-called "Party of Lincoln" members who have some vague recollection of the fact that we live in a republic that is to be governed for, by and of the people. And that pretty much the whole point of the Constitution is to make it so that no one branch of government -- but particularly the executive -- can seize too much power. Perhaps appealing to their sense of self preservation is the best strategy going forward.
@briankrebs Feels like Kristallnacht for the American experiment

@briankrebs I read a comment somewhere that posited the following - this is designed to be shocking to get people out protesting, thereby opening the door to some type of martial law. Now, it was only someone’s opinion, but you could see how that wouldn’t be off the table as an option - either accidentally or by design

@briankrebs weren't you just advocating "pushing" the US government to use seized funds to "do more security research"? Confusing messaging.

@milkman76 Not sure how these ideas are opposed, but also not sure why you mention it at all in this context?

@briankrebs because you are critical of the haywire operations and policies of this unhinged fascist state, yet you want to further empower it by providing it more *money for security research*. I don't need to additionally qualify that remark.

my faint hope is that congress realizes that if their control of fed purse strings is stolen by the executive branch and blessed by the judicial branch if challenged, they are without any power. maybe just for their own selfish ambitions, they'll try to stop was is already bordering on a full blown coup.

@briankrebs that's the thing though Brian. Those handful, perhaps dozen Party of Lincoln Republicans... Their geriatric pigs at a trough. Self preservation isnt a skill they possess, it's long since been superceded by appetite. That's all they are, creatures of appetite, with an aversion to anything resembling real work. When the kristallnach comes for someone they love they woln't stand up, they'll just pack up their toys and go away.
Look at Lindsey Graham as a prime example, when the ruZZians hacked the GOP he rolled like a trained pet.... Because he's a trained pet. The best of them are trained pets the worst are predatory narcissists.
