@tchambers @stefan I've been toying with a bunch of "starter pack” ideas for a while now...
- The #fediroll: https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/04/22/fediroll (https://shellsharks.social/@shellsharks/112316258053751977)
- My Masto "Starter Pack": https://shellsharks.com/notes/2023/10/20/infosec-mastodon-starter-pack
- The #indiesec #mammoth "Smart List” (and .csv export) https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/03/21/mammoth-indiesec-smart-list (admittedly I need to udpate this)
- Fedi Power-boosters: https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/03/26/power-boosters-of-the-fediverse
- Fedi artists: https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/08/30/favorite-fedi-artists
- Fav bots: https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/01/06/bots-in-space

@shellsharks @tchambers Very nice!

Mastodon technically has 'featured profiles', which is somewhat similar to a starter pack- but they dropped them from the UI a long time ago and never brought it back. it would be cool to see Mastodon make that visible since you can still go to someone's profile and click 'feature on profile, it just doesn't really do anything.
@box464 actually built an external tool that can manage them

@tom @shellsharks @tchambers Yes, I've seen this, very cool, @box464!

@tchambers @stefan Consent and moderation have been a recent discussion around a fediverse version of this concept. A balance of simplified creation and comprehensive consent management are a must for acceptance in the fediverse. Not quite as simple to build as Bluesky's version!

Do think "starter packs" are a really good idea. Do think iterating them so they cannot be abused and folks can add you to any starter pack without your blessing would make sense... the hardest part of "opt in" systems is how to make the graceful and simple and workable.
I'm not one who thinks that it is impossible to do both, but it is challenging.
