Oh man San Jose has such great immigrant food.

-
@skinnylatte Vietnamese too, especially in 95131.
-
@isaaccp yesssss
-
My fave Korean spots in the city: Muguboka, Sikdang Woori, and Yasijang
All good, but the average Korean place in San Jose is even better
-
@skinnylatte which places? Omogari is close to my family, so I’m curious.
-
@skinnylatte any specific recommendations so far?
-
@dariusdunlap I’ve yet to try a critical mass, but I really like Danbi (two restaurants in diff parts of San Jose). Their osam bulgogi is one of the best things I’ve eaten all year (squid and pork bulgogi). The tofu soup is also excellent
-
Oakland is a bit better! It has Moo Bong Ri, Dan Sung Sa, Yuyu Zazang, Seoul Gom Tang, all places I love
That’s where I go when I don’t go to San Jose
-
@skinnylatte Gonna have to try it. I've been disappointed with everything I've ever tried here after getting spoiled by frequent business trips to SK in the 90's.

@dariusdunlap there are a bunch of places that are a bit more localized and I don’t love those but a bunch that are not at all, that I like a lot more. Also in recent years Korean chefs have discovered they make more money in California and have come here. K-town in LA is, for my money, a phenomenal experience and SJ is pretty good.
There are some top Seoul restaurants that have opened in SJ too. Can’t remember their names

@skinnylatte We used to love calavaras square shops in Milpitas - lots of options there. And if you're willing to head further north to Fremont, there are a couple of great plazas. The south bay is so underrated overall, but most of these places require a car.
-
@isaaccp @skinnylatte Vietnamese in San Jose is outstanding. I desperately miss it. New Zealand, even Auckland, is really sparse on that front.
-
@skinnylatte Where do you go in San Jose? I work in Santa Clara, hence the q.
-
@skinnylatte I've had plenty of good Korean food in California, but nothing that was fantastic. It's all so long ago, i don't know that i can tell "authentic", but would love to find some places with food that makes you go, "Wow!"
-
@dariusdunlap Yuyu Zazang in Oakland is as good as any Korean Chinese spot in Seoul to me, Danbi’s bulgogi and soup definitely made me go wow
-
@trollball I really like Danbi, two locations in SJ. try the osam bulgogi

@skinnylatte Can't speak to Korean food, but given how cheaper and better Japanese food is in San Jose / Sunnyvale than in Seattle, I can totally believe you.
