@pixelfed ads is not that bad if you don't get enough from ks

@elduvelle @Mikaleb @pixelfed that's true but everybody wants something for free. As long as ads aren't using mined meta data I find them a tolerable alternative to subscriptions.
-
@acs Maybe, but again, nobody here wants ads. The clearest advantage of this place over all the for-profit ones is that it has no ads and I hope it stays like that for ever.
Also, it's not that we need ads, there are other ways to support our instances, like donations, contributing some time, funding by grants or other no-strings-attached sources.
The attention-sucking, consumerist, privacy-invading ad system that people are getting so used to is not the only way to go!

@elduvelle @acs @Mikaleb @pixelfed ads are fine in themselves. Independently run parts of the internet existed for a long time on ads that were responsibly run i.e. just basic text or images aimed at the community, which didn't require or collect any data.
Hell, I remember we used to be happy when our favourite independent sites got sponsorships, and popular content creators still do it with product endorsements.
So I wouldn't object to that form of advertising again.

@bitflipped @elduvelle @acs @Mikaleb @pixelfed Ads are not fine.
-
@dalias @elduvelle @acs @Mikaleb @pixelfed yes, I'm aware that people expect everything for free and on their own terms regardless, however I prefer to see content creators get rewarded for their hard work. Thankfully, those I follow do tend to get sponsorships and handle them in a responsible way.

lol you started reciting boomer memes instead of considering that people can be paid without resorting to advertising
when the bumper sticker says "ads shit in your brain" this is what they're talking about. homey cannot even conceive of a different answer, immediately attacks someone who claims there might be one

@khm @dalias @elduvelle @acs @Mikaleb @pixelfed I don't tend to spend time thinking up constructive points to send to someone who can't even be bothered to explain their reasoning, because I figured there's no point. I mean, I got one sentence to work with.
Thanks for the unhinged reply though, very useful for promoting the constructive conversation you seem to desire....

maybe you should switch to an instance with a higher character limit if your massive faceted thoughts can't fit into a mere five hundred?
or is this just more bullshit from someone unwilling to examine their own assumptions?
