As the United States hovers at the edge of fascism, the history of Germany can help.

@impy Yes, the Germans quite deliberately studied and adopted Jim Crow laws as they set their laws about race into place.

I'm constantly amazed at the number of these "Christians" who have obviously never read their holy book.
I've read it, and it doesn't say what they think it says.
But they refuse to acknowledge this, even if you hand then a Bible ope to the relevant verse.

@wdlindsy I might help with another source. Looks kind of esoteric at first glance but I think Ken Wilber made a pretty decent analysis of the Trump phenomenon in his 2017 publication, summarized at

@wdlindsy At this point this comparison is too late - they've long since embraced it & are basically flat-out saying that this Hitler guy was on to something & shouldn't have been stopped & where he failed, they will succeed. And it appears to not turn GOP voters away in any significant degree. The only way those minds may (!) change is if they understand that they, too, will be victims, oppressed just like they salivate to oppress others - that The Great Leader will not have their backs.

"On the front page of neither [the New York Times nor the Washington Post] is there is a hint of all of the disqualifying behavior and language Donald engaged in over the weekend. โฆ
He wasnโt sending up a trial balloon, he wasnโt being sarcastic. Donald Trump knows he can get away with anything he wants. Nobody is stopping him, so thereโs no reason for him to stop."

"Itโs all projection all the time with Donald and MAGA, but itโs been time to call it out for the fascist threat that this right-wing authoritarian cult represents to our democracy and our most vulnerable communities.
There is an enemy within, and its name is MAGA."

It looks ever more likely that Trump will benefit from his own ignorance.
His endless stream of monotonous garbage, to what he believes is an admiring audience, is actually providing more reason for people to move further away from politics as an interest. No-one likes being brow-beaten.
So, with his noise bouncing off the only input they get is from the media. The morning paper picked up on the way to work.
And who owns that.
So, unintentionally, his din possibly works.

Clearly leadership of NYT and WaPo love themselves some fascism and have no concept of what a terrible idea that is for journalists, business or any collaborators. Or they do know and don't give one fuck.

@wdlindsy Yeah, Several occasionโs we witnessed that Despite some perceptions, it's important we know that in certain context , Donald Trump has expressed his views sincerely without sarcasm. This highlights the complexity of his communication style, most time opposition seek for a way through this means to bring him down , where intent can sometimes misinterpreted.

@wdlindsy I wonder if pointing these voters towards Evangelicals for Harris would provide them with the permission structure they need to vote differently than their local churches instruct them to. https://www.evangelicalsforharris.com/

@feisty_lemming It might affect a very few, but, honestly, not many, in my view. I say this as someone raised in the Southern Baptist church in the very evangelical (and right-wing) culture of the American South, who has two first cousins who are Southern Baptist ministers. I know my people. They are not pliable or willing to be informed or reconsider their long list of bad choices from defending slavery to welcoming Jim Crow to combating desegregation and women's and LGBTQ rights.
