I wonder how many pieces of technology either stalled out and turned back toward big & clunky or just started awkward and stayed that way? Like, either because they were fine that way or folks over-complicated them over time

@lmorchard Well, and vice versa of course. When Java arrived, it was lean & mean, a small language with a super-strict definition and a well-crafted set of libraries that had a lot of what you needed. Nobody would call it lean, or anything but sprawling and baroque. I would say that’s a more common evolutionary path for successful technologies? Not that I can think of a way to support either side of that argument.

@lmorchard my immediate thought was mobile phones: brick -> bar -> trinket -> slab -> big slab

@randomgeek And now, great big folding slabs!

@lmorchard pholdable phablets

@lmorchard like
I'm fine with the observable characteristics of my genitalia. I don't need a big truck.
What I want is to be able to parallel park.

@randomgeek @lmorchard You don't want to drive a muskboner? Careful, you might get run out of .az.us if they find out.

@nomad @lmorchard dunno, I haven't seen any Tesla trucks.
Course we are just wrapping up with monsoon season.
They're probably all stuck in the driveway.
